Physiotherapy Referrals

There is a strong link between lameness and back pain, and as such physiotherapy can be seen as an essential adjunct to conventional veterinary medicine. Physiotherapists use a thorough assessment and clinical reasoning skills to develop a treatment plan incorporating techniques to target;

  • Stiffness
  • Poor posture
  • Pain and muscle spasm
  • Weak core muscles
  • Rider muscle imbalance
  • Reduced range of movement
  • Ligament and tendon injuries
  • Poor proprioception
  • Weak muscles (through lameness or neurological injury)

Techniques vary from a course of therapeutic ultrasound or neuromuscular stimulation to joint mobilisation and soft tissue techniques to improve range and reduce pain. Physiotherapists are the rehabilitation experts. Liaison with other professionals allows a more complete approach and more client satisfaction.
